'The Marvels' box office Opens to $6.6M in previews

"The Marvels" starts its box office journey with $6.6 million in Thursday evening previews.

This figure is notably lower than "Captain Marvel," which earned $20.7 million in 2019 previews.

"The Marvels" is the 33rd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

It serves as a sequel to the 2019 film "Captain Marvel," which debuted with $153.4 million in North America and grossed $1.13 billion worldwide.

The film is experiencing a decline in tracking an unusual situation for MCU movies.

Initial projections of a $75-80 million domestic opening have been revised to $60-65 million with some predicting figures below $60 million.

Disney insiders now estimate an opening weekend between $47 million to $55 million.

Rival studios suggest figures as low as $46 million.
