Grammy-winning singer Shakira Faces 2nd tax investigation in Spain

Shakira has been at the centre of a tax fraud case in Spain since last summer.

A judge in Barcelona has opened a second investigation into tax fraud by Shakira, a court said on Thursday.

She is reportedly awaiting a $16.2 million tax lawsuit from 2012 to 2014.

A judge in the Barcelona suburb of Esplugues de Llobregat opened a second investigation in 2018 for two counts of tax fraud.

Grammy-winning singer Shakira reiterated her innocence on Thursday.

Through her public relations firm, Shakira has denied all allegations of tax fraud relating to the period 2012–2014.

"Shakira has always defended acting in compliance with the law and under the guidance of the best tax experts," it said in a statement.

"She is focused on her artistic life in Miami and remains calm and confident about a favorable resolution to her tax matters," he added.
