News about Mikaela Shiffrin Hospitalized

U.S. skiing sensation Mikaela Shiffrin, hailed as the most successful skier in history, faced a setback when she crashed during the women’s downhill event in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on Friday. Midway through her run, Shiffrin lost control and collided with the safety nets lining the slope. The 28-year-old athlete was visibly limping as she exited the course, supported by her skis and accompanied by medical staff.

Following the incident, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team provided an update on Shiffrin’s condition via a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Mikaela Shiffrin was taken by ambulance to the clinic in Cortina and is being evaluated for a left leg injury. Preliminary analysis shows that the ACL and PCL are intact. “More details are yet to come.”

In response, Shiffrin expressed gratitude for the support and also congratulated her teammates for their success.

This incident follows a recent crash involving Shiffrin’s partner, Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who experienced a high-speed crash at a World Cup event earlier in January. Kilde underwent surgery, and Shiffrin was by his side during his recovery.

CNN has reached out to Shiffrin’s representatives for additional comments on the recent incident.
