Oscars Ceremony 2024: Kimmel to host the Oscars for 4th time
“Jimmy Kimmel Returns to Host 96th Oscars, Joining Elite Hosting Ranks”
Jimmy Kimmel is set to take the stage once again as the host of the 96th Oscars ceremony marking his fourth time helming the prestigious event.
Having previously led the ceremonies in 2017, 2018, and 2023, Kimmel’s return follows his notable hosting stints, including the 2017 ceremony marked by the infamous “La La Land” and “Moonlight” best picture mix-up. His fourth hosting endeavor places him in the company of other four-time hosts like Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. Only Johnny Carson (5), Billy Crystal (9) and Bob Hope (11) have hosted more times.
The 2023 Oscars witnessed a surge in viewership, attracting an average audience of 18.8 million viewers, a 13% increase from previous figures. Notably surpassing the 2023 Grammys and Emmys, the ceremony garnered a 4.0 rating in the adults 18-49 key demo reaching three-year highs in both total viewers and demo marking a 5% rise since 2020.
This year’s lineup of films contending for awards includes crowd-pleasers such as Warner Bros’ “Barbie” and Universal Pictures’ “Oppenheimer.” These billion-dollar hits led the “Barbenheimer” summer craze that dominated theaters and social media. Expected to be strong contenders in the best picture race, they join acclaimed movies like “American Fiction,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Poor Things.”
Behind the scenes, the celebration of film achievements will be executive produced by Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan and Hamish Hamilton with Kapoor serving as the showrunner. Noteworthy creatives onboard include creative director Kenny Gravillis, production designers Misty Buckley and Alana Billingsley, red carpet show executive producer David Chamberlin, and red carpet creative consultants Lisa Love and Raúl Àvila.
In the past the 95th Oscars earned a Primetime Emmy Awards nomination for outstanding variety special (live), while Kimmel himself received an additional nomination for his late-night show in the talk series category, bringing his career total nominations to 20. The results will be revealed in January.
The 96th Oscars are scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 10, 2024, promising another night of glamour and celebration within the film industry.
