Dwayne Johnson is in talks to return as Maui in Moana 2, as per reports following an announcement by Disney CEO Bob Iger about the sequel’s release. Though casting details weren’t specified, Deadline suggests Johnson is close to finalizing his return, while discussions with Auli’i Cravalho, who voices Moana, are ongoing. The confirmation of the sequel during Disney’s earnings report surprised many, with the decision to shift from a planned Disney+ series to a theatrical release.
The sequel is set for release on 27th November, alongside Wicked: Part One, aiming to replicate the box office success of the original.
