Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, which is spread to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks, also known as deer ticks. The disease is named after the town of Lyme, Connecticut, where it was first identified in 1975 year again.
