News about Sheryl Sandberg To Leave Meta’s Board

Sheryl Sandberg, former Chief Operating Officer and director at Meta Platforms Inc., has announced her decision to step down from the company’s board later this year. Sandberg, who played a crucial role in transforming Meta into a digital-advertising powerhouse, joined Facebook in 2008. In a post on Meta’s Facebook network, she expressed gratitude and memories stating that she will not seek reelection in May but will continue to serve as an adviser.

During her tenure Sandberg significantly contributed to Meta’s success helping the social media giant generate nearly $117 billion in revenue in 2022, primarily from targeted advertising. As the public face of the company, she navigated it through challenges and controversies. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chairman acknowledged Sandberg’s dedication in a comment on her post.

It remains uncertain if Meta will appoint a replacement for Sandberg on the board, which currently consists of eight members including Zuckerberg. Sandberg left her role as COO in 2022 and has since focused on philanthropy. She launched Lean In Girls a program for girls aged 11 to 15, under her nonprofit organization LeanIn.Org. Additionally, she contributed to bringing a women’s professional soccer club to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2023. Recently, Sandberg organized a United Nations event addressing sexual violence during the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
