Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney take the lead roles in the upcoming romantic comedy “Anyone But You,” showcased in a new trailer released by Sony Pictures. The film follows Bea (played by Sweeney) and Ben (played by Powell) as attendees at a destination wedding. At the wedding friends mention that Bea and Ben had a fling during a break in Bea’s previous relationship. Complicating matters, Ben’s ex-girlfriend who deeply hurt him, also attends the wedding.
As Bea’s parents arrive with her ex, Jonathan in tow, Bea and Ben strike a deal to pretend to be a couple. Their goal is to ward off pressure from Bea’s parents for her to reunite with her ex and for Ben to win back his former girlfriend. To maintain the facade they must recreate the initial attraction they felt when they first met and convincingly act like they enjoy each other’s company.
Throughout the wedding weekend their fake-couple antics escalate leading them to question whether there might be genuine feelings between them. The official synopsis describes the storyline as two individuals unexpectedly thrown together at a destination wedding in Australia opting to pretend to be a couple despite their apparent dislike for each other.
“Anyone But You” has been highly anticipated by romantic comedy enthusiasts especially after Sydney Sweeney shared glimpses of the film’s production in Australia in April. The stars also promoted the movie at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas, characterizing it as a story about “two people that hate each other.”
Amidst the filming rumors of a romance between Powell and Sweeney circulated following Powell’s breakup with his ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris. Powell addressed these rumors acknowledging the challenges of dealing with such public speculation while navigating the entertainment industry.
