“Netflix Explores Uncle Fester-Centric Spinoff from ‘Wednesday'”

Netflix is delving into the expansion of its Addams Family universe with talks of a spinoff centered around Uncle Fester a key character from the series ‘Wednesday.’ Fred Armisen portrays Uncle Fester the paternal uncle of Jenna Ortega’s character.

This potential spinoff comes in the wake of the massive success of ‘Wednesday’ which debuted in November 2022 and swiftly became Netflix’s most-watched series in terms of streaming “views.” The show’s second season renewal in January solidified its popularity.

Amazon MGM Studios the show’s producer and rights holder to the characters is reportedly fully supportive of this spinoff as indicated by Bloomberg, which initially reported on its development.

The creators and showrunners of ‘Wednesday’ Al Gough and Miles Millar, had brewing ideas for spinoffs even prior to the series’ premiere. Gough mentioned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast that the expansive world they’ve crafted allows any character to take the lead in their own show. With the caliber of cast members like Fred Armisen, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman the potential for branching out the Addams Family world is a topic they’ve actively discussed and are keen to pursue should the series continue its success.

For the first season, Gough, Millar and Tim Burton (who directed half of the season) served as executive producers alongside a team including Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Gail Berman, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Tommy Harper, Kevin Lafferty and Kevin Miserocchi. Notably, Jenna Ortega will step into a producer role for the upcoming second season.
