Meg 2: The Trench reviews – Gleefully Jumping the Shark is Bigger and Better

Five years ago, Jason Statham met a shark. Many sharks and very large.

Live in secret in an undiscovered ecosystem beneath the deep-sea thermocline.

Statham’s meeting with these animals resulted in the subject of the 2018 film The Meg.

So Statham is returning to pale-gray waters for a second attempt to charm us.

The Meg 2: The Trench was released in cinemas on 5 August.

One problem with the first film, directed by John Turteltaub, was that it didn’t do enough exploration of the strange biomes at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

Joe Statham’s marine rescuer-cum-environmental activist Jonas Taylor will be sent into the depths for some kind of giant animal adventure in the new film.

This movie introduces us to some new species and makes fun of everything we know about oceanography.
