Lili Reinhart Opens Up About Alopecia Diagnosis and Mental Health Struggles
American actress Lili Reinhart recently disclosed her alopecia diagnosis sharing a TikTok video undergoing red light therapy amid a major depressive episode. Alopecia, where the immune system attacks hair follicles causing hair loss, predominantly affects the head and face but can occur anywhere on the body, impacting up to 6.7 million people in the U.S., according to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.
In the social media footage Reinhart lip-syncs to a statement expressing the strain of enduring challenging situations. The caption reads, “Red light therapy is my new best friend #alopecia #mentalhealth.”
Despite no recognized cure for alopecia by the National Institute of Health, red light therapy is reported to stimulate hair growth as noted by the Hollywood Reporter.
Reinhart, known for her role in “Riverdale,” has been candid about her mental health struggles, including sadness and anxiety. In a 2020 interview, she shared the ups and downs of her career and mental health, describing a period where she felt trapped in an unending “black tunnel.” However, she emphasized facing her challenges directly rather than seeking external solutions to fill emotional voids.
“I took the road less travelled and just dealt with my shit. I had to face my own pain head-on,” Reinhart stated in the interview highlighting her commitment to addressing personal struggles.
