News about Jodie Foster Turned Down Role

Jodie Foster revealed during an appearance on NBC’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she was once offered the iconic role of Princess Leia in Star Wars during the late 1970s. Fallon brought up the topic, saying, “You’ve been in so many iconic roles and we love what you do.

But I saw it on the Internet – you were offered the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars, is that true?” Foster confirmed, “Yes, I was. They were going for Little Princess Leia but there was a conflict with me. I was doing a Disney movie and I didn’t want to get out of a Disney movie because I was already under contract.”

Foster, who would have been 13 or 14 during the filming of the original Star Wars, cited scheduling conflicts with a Disney film as the reason for declining the role. “And they did a great job. I don’t know how good I would have been if I had had different hair. Maybe I would have gone with the pineapple,” she joked, referring to Princess Leia’s famous Danish pastry hairstyle.

Although Foster did not specify which Disney movie caused the scheduling conflict it’s suggested that it might have been the hit film Freaky Friday released in 1976. Around that time, Foster was quite busy, also appearing in four other movies in the same year, including her acclaimed dramatic role in Taxi Driver.

Despite missing out on the role of Princess Leia, Foster praised Carrie Fisher, who ultimately portrayed the character and acknowledged the fantastic job Fisher did. Foster, an Oscar winner, remains active in the entertainment industry and is currently starring in HBO’s crime drama True Detective: Night Country. She recently co-starred in the open water swimming biopic Nyad.
