Actress Robert Downey Jr. eyeing Stewart’s role, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been tapped to write the script. Iron Man actor Downey and wife Susan Downey are attached to produce the project through Team Downey along with John Davis and John Fox through Davis Entertainment.

It’s gotten into Hitchcock movies that have been remade over the years. It also includes 1998’s Psycho by Gus Van Sant, a shot-for-shot remake of the 1960 classic. As Vertigo has been a major source of inspiration for works such as David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive and Mel Brooks’ High Anxiety, this marks the first time an American studio has attempted a full remake. Will be a big challenge for the Iron Man actor.

The original film Vertigo starred James Stewart as John “Scotty” Ferguson; a former police detective called into retirement after suffering a stroke in the line of duty. Which left him with a fear of heights and a severe case of vertigo. One day, he is hired to tail Madeleine (Kim Novak), an acquaintance’s wife, only to become obsessed with her.

The film Vertigo was the first to use the dolly zoom, an in-camera device in film that distorts the perspective to create disorientation and help the viewer get drawn into the acrophobia situation of the police. The film initially received mixed reviews, but has since been reconsidered as a classic, and is now regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.
