News about Marilyn Monroe Clothes, Items To Go To Auction
It seems like there’s an upcoming auction featuring iconic memorabilia from Hugh Hefner and Marilyn Monroe’s lives. The auction, titled Icons: Playboy, Hugh Hefner and Marilyn Monroe will take place at Julien’s Auctions’ Los Angeles headquarters in late March. The collection includes over 1,000 artifacts sourced from the Playboy archives, Hefner’s personal heirlooms and Monroe’s estate, spanning from their early lives in the 1920s to the 1950s and early ’60s, capturing the height of their fame and influence.
Notably, the sale will feature Marilyn Monroe’s black dress from The Seven Year Itch estimated to sell for up to US$200,000. The items include clothing, photographs, documents, furniture and other memorabilia associated with the magazine’s golden era. Some highlights of the auction include an original Andy Warhol Playboy Bunny silkscreen from 1985, a LeRoy Neiman painting titled Romanoffs from 1959 and an Alberto Vargas watercolor drawing of a pinup girl from the March 1967 issue of Playboy.
The connection between Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner is deeply embedded in history, especially considering Monroe’s appearance in the inaugural 1953 issue of Playboy. Despite never meeting Monroe, Hefner purchased the crypt next to her plot in a Los Angeles cemetery and was laid to rest beside her in 2017.
The auction represents a unique opportunity for collectors to acquire pieces connected to these iconic figures and the cultural movements they influenced.
