See also shaving, waxing and epilating – there are a lot of hair removal options.

However, most of these methods leave you with painful nicks and annoying bumps.

The delicate skin of your armpits is prone to sensitivity and irritation,

If you want to say goodbye to bumps, cuts and ingrown hairs then switch to waxing and save yourself from future hassle.

The great thing about waxing is that you can stretch the gaps between waxing sessions.

If seen, shaving hair comes back in a few days. It takes longer for hair to grow back after waxing.

Waxing removes the hair directly from the root. Because of this, it takes a long time for the hair to regrow from the follicle.

Wait It Out

If you notice hair growth, then instead of waxing, you have to let your hair grow for several days. The best is to wait until your hair is about one-quarter inch in length, according to Healthline.

You want hair closer to finger-length, so be sure to trim the hair before waxing. To trim near the underarms, aim to use small brow scissors — not regular household scissors — or an electric hair clipper for precision.

Prepare For Waxing

To prevent ingrown hairs, you should try to exfoliate two or three days before. A gentle exfoliating mitt works great, you don’t want to exfoliate on the day of your at-home waxing session, as this will increase sensitivity and irritation. You should also skip deodorant and antiperspirant on the same day as they clog hair follicles and make it difficult for the wax to grip the hair.

How To Wax

After you have cleaned and prepared your skin, the wax needs to be warmed up. First, apply baby powder on your underarms to absorb excess moisture and prevent the wax from sticking to your skin.

Once the wax is melted, use an applicator to spread the wax along the direction of hair growth.

After that take your wax strip and gently smooth it over the wax. Keeping your skin taut, pull the strip off in one swift motion in the opposite direction of hair growth. Epilation in the opposite direction stops the ingrown hair.

You should try not to wax the same spot more than once, as repeated pulling can cause irritation. To avoid going over the same area, use tweezers to remove any stragglers.

After waxing, apply a serum or gel with soothing ingredients like aloe vera or calendula.
