News about ‘Mandalorian And Grogu’ Movie

Excitement is brewing as Grogu the endearing character from “The Mandalorian” is set to make his big-screen debut. Lucasfilm has given the green light to “The Mandalorian & Grogu” a new film directed by Jon Favreau, creator of the hit series. Production is scheduled to commence later this year.

The movie produced by Favreau, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer Dave Filoni, is touted as the first Star Wars film to enter production since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” While there were expectations for a Daisy Ridley-led project to kickstart the new wave it seems that venture will take more time to materialize.

Expressing his enthusiasm Favreau mentioned, “I’ve cherished storytelling within George Lucas’s expansive universe. The idea of bringing the Mandalorian and Grogu to cinemas is incredibly thrilling.”

“The Mandalorian” which debuted in 2019 on Disney+, led by Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin (The Mandalorian), captured hearts with Grogu, fondly dubbed Baby Yoda, becoming a pop culture sensation. The series’ third season premiered last year, spawning spinoffs like “The Book of Boba Fett” and the developing second season of “Ahsoka.”

Although Lucasfilm didn’t specify a release date an untitled Star Wars feature is slated for Dec. 19, 2025.

This development signals a potential revitalization for Lucasfilm’s cinematic endeavors, often grappling with defining the Star Wars cinematic landscape. The studio previously announced projects at the Star Wars Celebration in London, including Ridley’s and a film directed by Filoni, anticipated to include Disney+ characters. Additionally, James Mangold is linked to another project set in the distant past, still in early development stages.

This latest update solidifies Favreau and Filoni’s pivotal roles as key creatives within the Star Wars universe.

Kathleen Kennedy praised the duo, saying, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have introduced two beloved characters to the Star Wars world, making this new cinematic venture a perfect addition to the big screen.”
