Ghostbusters: New and Original Casts Join Forces in ‘Frozen Empire’ Sequel
The Ghostbusters are back in action with an exciting announcement following the success of the 2021 reboot Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Set for a 2024 release a sequel has been confirmed uniting the new cast with the iconic 1980s team.
Expect a nostalgic blend as Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and more team up for the fifth installment in the franchise. However, the sequel won’t just rely on nostalgia; it promises fresh action too. New York will face the Death Chill a fatal frost gripping the city in the midst of a scorching summer.
The star-studded lineup includes Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts. Rumors also swirl around UK comedian James Acaster possibly having a role.
The official synopsis teases an epic adventure: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire reunites the Spengler family with the original Ghostbusters at the iconic New York City firehouse. Together, they unveil a top-secret research lab aimed at elevating ghost-busting. However, the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes a malevolent force compelling both old and new Ghostbusters to unite, protecting their home and battling to prevent a second Ice Age.”
Amidst the excitement the possibility of major character deaths adds an extra layer of intrigue. Director Jason Reitman, who helmed Ghostbusters: Afterlife, co-writes the script alongside Gil Kenan with Kenan taking the director’s chair this time.
