Donald Glover: ‘Too Old to Be Spider-Man Now’ But Open to Spider-Verse Return

Donald Glover acknowledges he’s “too old” to play Spider-Man but hints at a potential return to the Spider-Verse, dismissing the idea that his recent cameo was an apology for not casting him as the web-slinger. Meanwhile, he stays busy with roles in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and a Star Wars movie development.

Donald Glover: ‘Too Old to Be Spider-Man Now’ But Open to Spider-Verse Return

Don’t expect to see Donald Glover donning Spider-Man’s suit anytime soon. Despite a longstanding connection with the superhero, including a campaign for a role in The Amazing Spider-Man back in 2010, Glover acknowledges that he’s likely “too old” to play the web-slinger. While he has already made his mark in the Spider-Verse as Miles Morales’ uncle Aaron in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2022), he humorously expressed that he wouldn’t be surprised if he were called back into the Spider-Verse.

In a recent Lie Detector Test with his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star Maya Erskine, Glover dismissed the idea that his cameo in the Spider-Verse was Sony’s way of apologizing for not casting him as Spider-Man. He laughed off the notion, emphasizing that a live-action Miles Morales might be in the cards, and if so, he could see himself in a different role, perhaps as Prowler, given his current age.

Glover’s brief live-action cameo in Across the Spider-Verse marked a full-circle moment, considering he previously voiced Miles in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. The character Miles Morales was co-created by Brian Michael Bendis, who mentioned being inspired by a scene in the TV show “Community” where Glover wears Spider-Man pajamas.

While not swinging through the Spider-Verse, Glover is staying busy. Apart from his role in Amazon Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith alongside Maya Erskine, he and his brother, Stephen Glover, are working on developing a Star Wars movie centered around the character Lando Calrissian. Despite the Spider-Man age barrier, Glover continues to carve out diverse spaces for himself in the entertainment industry.
