Decent Start for Aquaman 2: Grosses $14 Million on Day 1 at the Box Office
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom: Opening Day Box Office Collection Revealed
The highly anticipated release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” also known as Aquaman 2 has made its debut at the North American box office. Initial predictions hinted at a slower start for the film, which, while appearing decent in isolation, presented unexpectedly lower figures for a sequel. Let’s delve into its performance on its opening day in the domestic market.
Directed by James Wan the movie serves as a sequel to the 2018 film “Aquaman” within the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). Its arrival in the domestic market occurred on Friday following its earlier release in other international markets.
According to Deadline’s report the film grossed $14 million on its first day encompassing previews. This figure aligns closely with projections, with estimations anticipating a $40 million weekend total by Monday and an expected domestic collection of $30 million by Sunday.
For a Christmas release, this marks a commendable performance and if the film maintains its momentum it stands to continue its strong box office run through the New Year. While critical reviews have been mixed the movie has garnered a better audience score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes compared to its predecessor’s 72%.
This year’s box office landscape witnessed surprising results with MCU’s “The Marvels.” Despite being a sequel to a blockbuster, the Brie Larson-led film saw underwhelming domestic box office numbers, grossing $21.5 million on its opening day, including previews. “Aquaman 2” with its $14 million opening day 1and exhibits a 34% lower performance in comparison.
