After seven years together Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka have parted ways as confirmed by the dancer on Tuesday. Tanaka, who evolved from being Carey’s backup dancer to her creative director and partner shared a statement with The Associated Press and posted it on his Instagram, addressing their amicable separation.
Expressing mixed emotions, Tanaka said, “Our decision to go our separate ways is mutual and as we move forward on these separate journeys, we are deeply grateful for the precious time we shared. Express our respect and gratitude. Let us do so with an overwhelming sense of urgency.” Mentioned that the memories and artistic collaborations they created together are deeply engraved in his heart.
Looking ahead Tanaka expressed his anticipation for continuing his journey driven by his passion for inspiration, dance and the creative arts.
Tanaka initially met Carey when he joined her 2006 The Adventures of Mimi tour as a backup dancer. While Carey confirmed their relationship in 2017 to the AP, she has not made any public statements regarding their recent breakup.
Speculation about their split surfaced last month when fans noticed Tanaka’s absence from Carey’s Merry Christmas One and All! tour. However, a representative for Carey has not responded to requests for comment from the AP.
