Adam Sandler’s Sci-Fi Drama ‘Spaceman’ Teaser Revealed by Netflix

On Tuesday morning Netflix unveiled the teaser trailer for “Spaceman” a sci-fi drama starring Adam Sandler and directed by Johan Renck, known for his Emmy-winning work on “Chernobyl.” The streaming giant announced that the film is set to premiere on March 1st, 2024.

Adapted by Colby Day the movie is based on Jaroslav Kalfař’s 2017 novel “Spaceman of Bohemia.” It follows Sandler’s character, astronaut Jakub, six months into a solitary research mission at the solar system’s edge. He realizes his marriage to Lenka (played by Carey Mulligan from “Maestro”) might not be waiting for him upon his return to Earth. Desperate to mend his relationship, Jakub is aided by a mysterious ancient creature, Hanuš, voiced by Paul Dano (“Dumb Money”), found within his spaceship. Together, they strive to understand and fix what went wrong before it’s too late.

The film also stars Kunal Nayyar (“The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry”), Lena Olin (“Hunters”) and Isabella Rossellini (“Julia”). Producers include Channing Tatum, Reed Caroline, Peter Kiernan, Michael Parrott, Tim Headington, Lia Bauman and Max Silva. Executive producers are Ben Ormand, Renck and Barry Bernardi.

“Spaceman” appears to take on a weightier tone than Sandler’s previous Netflix works. While his 2022 basketball film “Hustle” had some dramatic elements, Sandler is best known for his impactful roles in films like the Safdie brothers’ “Uncut Gems” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Punch Drunk Love.”

Sandler recently achieved success on Netflix with the animated feature “Leo” breaking records upon its November 21st release. Earlier in the year he found acclaim with comedic titles like “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” and “Murder Mystery 2.”
